Percussion Music Workshop for children & toddlers

Here at Street Style Surgery we're happy to offer something for everyone - even toddlers!  Our facilitator Mitch is an inspiring, encouraging teacher for many of our music workshops, including Percussion Soundscapes for Early Years.  In this particular music workshop, youngsters will use percussion instruments from all over the world to create new environments and sensory experiences, as well as use music to accompany stories.

What happens on this workshop?

This percussion workshop is full of positive activities for young people to engage in!  Young people will arrive to percussive soundscapes performed by Mitch.  He will be performing in a decorated room so toddlers can notice the dramatic change in their environment.  Toddlers will join in and play drum sounds along with Mitch; he will teach them how to mimic sounds from environments all over the world, from the jungle to the ocean, Africa to Indonesia!  The music workshop continues on with the creation of a storyline, where students can participate as musicians or actors; it concludes with a gentle, soothing soundscape.

What areas does this workshop cover on the national curriculum?

All of Mitch's workshops cover Music/ Geography/ Maths/ Communication/ History.

Through world percussion it is easy to inspire topic based projects such as Africa, South America etc even food and various celebrations that happen throughout the world.

What will young people get from this workshop?

There are so many benefits to playing sound games for kids!

This workshop will give toddlers and their parents an opportunity to play and create sounds and stories together.

Young kids learn how to express themselves through percussion and realise how they can play together as a group.  Research has shown that drumming in group settings helps children develop self-esteem, confidence, respect and tolerance for their peers.  Drumming for kids helps to develop coordination and listening skills. Among the numerous positive activities for young people, experience with percussion and group music-making at such a young age instils confidence and cooperation.

What sizes does this workshop come in?

Our percussion music workshops for schools are available as half or whole day sessions, long term projects or as after-school sessions.

How many young people can this workshop accommodate?
