This Sensory Enterprise Workshop focuses on providing positive activities for young people with special education needs. This unique experience encourages sensory engagement through an array of projects aimed to help participants create innovative products. What happens on this creative workshop?

The Sensory Enterprise Workshop is broken down into twenty minute slots covering individual stages leading to the creation of an end product.

Examples include:

Spaghetti Printing – Using cooked spaghetti and paint to feel and develop abstract prints which can be used to create patterned fabric for products

Tie Dying – Using various colours on top of the fabric to create exciting colours to be incorporated inside the spaghetti type shapes.

Ice Cube Colour Painting – To be used for lower ability needs to inspire emotion and reflection of material through painting

Egg Shell Mosaics – Dying egg shells through a tie dye method to create tactile surfaces (allowing children to crack the eggs, colour them and create shapes with egg shell)

Products created through these methods include decorated plant pots in varying sizes and decorative handbags.

Bags / Purses through decorated and printed fabrics

Feedback from Fairfields School, Northampton

Jana was so enthusiastic about this project and both staff and children warmed to her immediately. We were very keen for the process to involve the children and Jana had such a lovely, unfazed and fluid approach to the creative process that all the staff and children instantly felt she was a perfect choice. We have a real diverse range of children and she was able to adapt and bring the workshop to each one.

I feel the workshops had a really positive impact on our children. We have a few children who are usually quite tactile defensive that were all getting involved and getting messy which was great to see and in terms of achieving something and being proud when they walk passed it in the corridor.

I would fully recommend the sessions to all special schools as it really meant the children could be involved and Jana was just fab to work with.

What sizes does this creative workshop come in?

The Sensory Enterprise Workshop is flexible depending on size of group and amount of projects included in the workshop session. Sessions range from one hour to a full day.

The workshop can also be used as a workshop for staff through CPD time.

How many young people can this creative workshop accommodate?

It is ideal to have a maximum of six young people in order to provide each individual participant with dedicated attention. A larger group can also be split into two halves – one morning and one afternoon session.
