Graffiti Workshop at Orchard House High School Manchester: SEN Student Mural Project
We recently delivered an inspiring graffiti workshop at Orchard House High School in Manchester, designed to empower SEN students through creativity, self-expression, and collaborative art
Led by professional artist Jamie, the project combined structured learning with student-led creativity, resulting in a powerful final mural now proudly displayed within the school.
Canvas-Based Graffiti Sessions
The project began with three hands-on canvas workshops, where students were introduced to graffiti techniques in a safe, accessible, and engaging way.
During these sessions, students explored:
- Spray can control and techniques
- Colour blending and layering
- Creative expression through street art
Each student created their own canvas piece, building confidence and developing their artistic voice.
Student-Led Creative Direction
A key part of this workshop was putting students at the centre of the creative process.
Using ideas, themes, and visual elements developed during the sessions, we worked collaboratively to shape the direction of a larger mural piece. This ensured the final artwork truly reflected the students' personalities, ideas, and energy.
Live Graffiti Mural Creation at the School Event
The project culminated in a live mural painting session during the school's official lunch day event.
Working on large boards, Jamie brought together the students' ideas into a cohesive graffiti mural, created in real time for staff and students to experience.
This live element:
- Built excitement and engagement
- Showcased the students' creative input
- Turned the workshop into a memorable school-wide moment
A Lasting Impact at Orchard House High School
The finished boards will now be installed along the school corridor, transforming the space with colour, creativity, and student ownership.
The response from staff and students was overwhelmingly positive, with many impressed by:
- The confidence boost for students
- The inclusive and engaging approach
- The high-quality, professional final artwork
