Money Matters School Workshop

What Happens in this Money Matters School Workshop?

This is a great youth group or school workshop.  We will use drama techniques to explore a variety of different themes related to money and financial literacy. These topics would include bills and the value of things, how money affects relationships and home life, work and saving up/ planning for the future, loan sharks.

Each of these themes will be explored using a different drama technique. Examples of activities are as follows:

*A physical theatre exercise using movement to create a currency by which participants can establish how much various products and services cost in relation to their gain from work.

*Group work exercise whereby each group is given a treat that they must save up for, a monthly income and outgoing and a timeline. They must use that information to create a saving plan, outlining where they would make cutbacks and sacrifices. They must then present this to the rest of the group as though trying to persuade them to abide by this plan.

*A Forum Theatre exercise where participants create their own pieces of drama telling a story of a disagreement or issue caused by money. Audience members then freeze the action of the piece offering up solutions to the problems. Through this activity we will introduce aspects such as budgeting and money saving techniques through discussion and some smaller exercises.
